HIGHGATE HORMONE CLINIC
Highgate Hormone Clinic is led by Mr Gidon Lieberman
“I am often asked how a man becomes a gynaecologist and even more how I ended up dealing with Menopausal patients.”
Mr Gidon Lieberman has held an NHS consultant post in Gynaecology at the Whittington Hospital since 2007. He holds the title of Menopause Specialist and Menopause Trainer by The British Menopause Society.
He holds full recognition by The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist as a specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery as well as general Obstetrics and Gynaecology, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, gynaecological ultrasound and management of the menopause as well.
His day to day work is split between helping those with issues to do with Fertility, Menopause as well as surgery.
“ I count myself fortunate to work in area in which I find interesting and rewarding. Do all my patients reach their goals? I would hope to help most do, but we have to be realistic about outcomes. Biology and medicine are not always predictable nor controllable, but I use my experience together with national and (medical) society guidelnes to reach the best possible outcome for you.”
If you have queries and worries
then they can be addressed quickly.
Mr Gidon Lieberman
"It certainly is not how I thought my medical career would go but it is certainly a fascinating area to work in. Menopause care is a satisfying branch of medicine because we are able to make importance and constructive changes to patients overall health and life. HRT and menopause care is not rejuvenation or the elixir of life however we see substantial improvements in health and quality of life."
"After medical school and travelling I started on a GP training program wanting to go to work in the developing world. Part of the scheme was in obstetrics and gynaecology, which led on to my MD thesis in Ovarian Cancer (2 years). Life intervened and my plans changed. I undertook my obstetrics and gynaecology training program over the next 6 years in North London, a further fellowship in Reproductive Medicine (2 years) at Barts and The London, a Consultant locum post at Guys Hospital (6 months) and have been happy working at the Whittington since 2007. The endocrine (hormone) training that I received has been invaluable in my subsequent development of having an interest in Menopause.
Complications
There can be complications with hormone treatment including unexpected vaginal bleeding. This can happen within the first few months of treatment in which case we generally don’t worry too much. If you are concerned or the bleeding persists then an ultrasound scan is needed, and sometimes a womb lining biopsy. Irregular bleeding does not normally have a worrying cause.
An ultrasound can be done within the normal appointment so it is not necessary to come back another time. A biopsy can also be done at the same appointment or arranged at a later date.
If you would prefer to have a biopsy under sedation or general anaesthetic then I can perform a hysteroscopy. (telescopic look inside the womb) and biopsy as soon as required.
I like my patients to have regular mammograms whilst using HRT and importantly for some time afterwards. Mammograms are arranged locally. I work closely with a breast surgeon who has a specialist interest in women using HRT, who is always happy to see women for discussion and surgery if needs be.
"I practice Mindfulness and I incorporate mindfulness into how we deal with patients"
My PA, Yvonne Baillie is ever present to sort out any administration concerns, and can be easily contacted at office@highgatehormoneclinic.co.uk
We work closely to offer a personalised and friendly, high quality service."
